An evaporative cooler is a device that cools air through the evaporation of water. Evaporative cooling uses water which absorbs heat and evaporates causing a cooling effect. This uses much less energy than air conditioning large spaces.

In extremely dry climates, evaporative cooling of air has the added benefit of increasing humidity in where the equipment has been installed.
